Robert Royal Rhoads, age 93, of Corunna, MI passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Corunna United Methodist Church, Corunna, MI on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. David R. Strobe will officiate. Burial will take place at Pine Tree Cemetery, Corunna, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. and Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, Corunna, MI.
Robert was born in Wheeler, Michigan on April 14, 1916, the son of Charles Allen and Myrtie Iola (Cornprobst) Rhoads. Bob graduated from Breckenridge High School. He married Mildred Anderson on July 22, 1935 at her parent's home in St. Louis, Michigan. Bob farmed in his younger years and then became a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker having worked for General Motors, Bendix Corporation, and Universal Electric where he was the Superintendent of Tool Manufacturing for the last twenty years before his retirement.
Bob resided most of his life in the Corunna area. He was a Past President of the Corunna Rotary and became a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 77 in Corunna, former chairman of the Shiawassee chapter of "The National Foundation", and also served on the board of Trustees for Simpson Park Camp. Bob served on the Board of Education for Corunna Public Schools. He was also a member of the Gideons, and a life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was the Grand Marshal of the Corunna 4th of July parade in 2000. Bob was also the Shiawassee County Republican of the year in 2007. He was a member of Corunna United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for over fifty years. He was a Lay Leader and Chairman of the Board for over twenty five years.
He is survived by daughter Darlene and Bill Morgridge of Clio, 8 grandchildren; Lorie and Keith Wichert, Diana and Mickel Woolworth, Yvonne Cole, Deonne Goetz, Robert and Michelle Cole, John Branstner, Julie and Terry Crosby, Joyce and Jerald England, and 1 brother Glenn Rhoads. Bob was predeceased by his wife Mildred on June 25, 1998, two daughters; Janet Zimmerman and Beverly Cole, three sisters; Bernice, Hazel, and Dorothy, and two brothers Cleo and Merle.
