Robert Allen “Bob” Wight age 73, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Spectrum Health Systems- Butterworth Campus, Grand Rapids, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Brian Ruth officiating. Burial will take place at Chapel Garden Cemetery, Seville Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Robert was born in Riverdale, MI on April 1, 1945, the son of Wiley and Marguerite (George) Wight. Bob graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1963. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Bob went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in architectural design from Ferris State University. He married Kay Hunt on July 16, 1966 in St. Louis, MI.
Bob retired from Hobbs and Black as the Senior Vice President in 2011. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and building. Bob was president of the Maple Rapids Ball Boosters and also spent many years coaching. Bob was a past cub master of pack 510, Maple Rapids, MI. He was a member of the American Legion post #153, St. Johns, MI. Most of all he loved the time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Kay Wight of St. Johns, MI; children: Barb and Rod Kindel of Portland, MI; James and Sherry Wight of Riverdale, MI; Eric and Susana Wight of Grand Blanc, MI; Janice and Rob Beals of St. Johns, MI; grandchildren: Mackenzie (Trent), Kyle, Justin, Emma, Trevor, Jacob, Gavin, Mariana, Austin, Steven; and great grandson Reed. He is also survived by sister Francis and Gary Meyer of Alma, MI; brother Darrel and Ann Wight of Georgia; sister Sharon and Van Nevins of Ithaca, MI; and sister in law Sandy Wight of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Carl Wight.
