Robert “Bob” Wood, 79, of St. Johns passed away peacefully on November 25, 2008 surrounded by his family. Bob passed away as a result of complications of Alzheimer's disease. Bob was born on November 7, 1929 in Lansing, MI. He was a Second Lieutenant in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Michigan State University and the University of Wisconsin Law School. Bob was a practicing attorney for 40 years. He also served the St. John community as a Mayor, City Commissioner, County Commissioner, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney and Justice of the Peace. He was a member of First Congregational Church and resided in St. Johns for over 44 years.

Bob was an avid vegetable and flower gardener, a voracious reader and an amazing civil war buff. He was also known for his tremendous Spartan spirit and his loyalty to MSU Football. He had a great love for all kinds of music with his favorites being; Opera, Dixieland and Bagpipes. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn who died in 2003, and his parents Howard, who died in 1981, and Noreen, who died in 1995.

He is survived by his children Wendy (Jim) Pittman of St. Johns, Margaret (Mark) Pittman of Diamondale and Doug (Mindy) Wood of Grand Ledge. Also surviving are his eight grandchildren, Stephanie of Dimondale, Monica of West Lafayette, IN, and Andrew, Melissa, Sarah, Eric of St. Johns, Elizabeth and Joseph of Grand Ledge as well as his brother Larry of Fayetteville, AR and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Sharon Lloyd of Wheaton, IL and several nieces and nephews. Bob's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful staff at Grand Haven Living Center in Lansing, MI where Bob had been receiving care for the past two years. They would especially like to thank the following caregivers for the love and attention they gave Bob: Tomassine, Gingi, Kameisha, Helen, Brenda, Naterria, Dawn, Sandra, David, Dana, Elise, and the nursing and administration staff. They would also like to thank Hospice of Lansing who helped Bob and his family during his transition to his homecoming in heaven, Heartland Hospice, the Alzheimer's Association and Dr. Strandmark for the wonderful support and services that were provided for Bob and his family during his journey with Alzheimer's.

The family is being served by Osgood Funeral Home of St. Johns where his funeral will be held Monday, December 1st at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Matt Olson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 29th from 6-8pm and Sunday, November 30th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the Exchange Club of St. Johns, Hospice of Lansing, or VFW Post #4113 of St. Johns.
