On February 20, 2017 Roberta Ellen Miller finally got her fondest wish: to see her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she crossed over.
She was born on September 30, 1928 as Roberta Ellen Dart (affectionately known to her husband as "R.E.D.") to her parents Lawrence and Elizabeth Dart in Holt MI.
Roberta's family moved to a small farm just outside of Elwell, MI when she was in the 4th grade. This is where she grew up and met the love of her life, Fred Miller, when she was in the 10th grade. They remember their first kiss and knew right then that they were to be together. Roberta and Fred were married July 29, 1945 on the family farm in Elwell. Being together for over 71 years seems to have proven them right.
Roberta was devoted to her family, but also had many other interests. They included bowling and cards, but most of all she loved baseball. She was always there to cheer on her husband whenever he played or to root for her two favorite teams: The Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees. She was also a longtime member of TOPS.
A major change took place in her life in 1976 when Roberta accepted Jesus Christ into her life as her Lord and personal Savior. From then on you could always find her in church on Sunday and Wednesday. She has been a member of the Ithaca Baptist Church for the last 30 years.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Elizabeth, sister Isabella Dart, brother Owen Dart, half-brother Lawrence Dart, and half-sister Marion Gross.
Roberta is survived by her husband Fred Miller, daughter Marilyn (Harold) Roberson, son Dan Miller (Marie Coughlin), grandchildren: Harold (Rehana) Roberson, Bret (Pam) Roberson, Brandy Miller (Delvonne Johnson), and Jared Miller; 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandson, sister Joan "Skip" (Bernard) Evey, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Roberta's life and faith will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ithaca Baptist Church 221 Norton Dr., Ithaca, MI 48847. Online condolences can be sent to www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI.
Though she will be missed greatly by those that love her, none would wish to take her away from the joy she is now experiencing!
