Roberta Joanne Stehlik, age 74, of Bannister, Michigan died Sunday, January 13, 2013 with her family at her side at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, Michigan on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Marcel Portelli officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI. Rosary will be prayed on 6:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Joanne was born in St. Johns, Michigan on December 11, 1938, the daughter of Rudolph and Helen (Belko) Porubsky. She graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1957. On April 19, 1958 she married Edward J. Stehlik at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister, Michigan. Ed predeceased her on November 22, 2006.
Joanne enjoyed baking, working puzzle books, gardening, sewing, crocheting and farming with her husband Ed. Spending time with her family and her grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of her greatest joys. Joanne also enjoyed sitting on her front porch in the sunshine reading. She resided most of her life in Bannister, Michigan. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, a member of the Altar Society, taught religious education for many years, and helped with the suppers at the church.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa and John Chapko of Elsie, MI, 3 sons; David and Kathleen Stehlik of Houghton Lake, MI, Tim and Lisa Stehlik of Corunna, MI, Chris and HyDee Stehlik of Elsie, MI, 9 grandchildren; Jennifer and Daniel Martin, Ryan and Alexis Chapko, Savannah and Adam Bolf, Tucker, Cannon and Shyler Stehlik, Brianna, Hunter and Drew Stehlik, 2 great grandchildren; Payton Chapko, Dominic Martin, and 3 more on the way, sister Dorothy and Larry Fultz of Halfway, MO, and brother Alfred and Mary Porubsky of Bannister, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers; Stephen, Robert and Gary.
