Rodney Lee McGillis age 63 of Ashley, MI, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at East Washington United Brethren Church, Ashley, MI on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Jeff Reser officiating.  Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI.

Rodney was born in St. Johns, MI on May 30, 1953 the son of John A.  and Joyce E. (Bellingar) McGillis. He graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1971.   Rodney married Marcia Miller on August 4, 1973.

Rod retired from General Motors in 2006. He went on to attend Lansing Barber School after retirement and opened his own barber shop in Ashley. Rod enjoyed hunting and fishing. The joy of his life was his grandsons.  He served 8 years on the Village of Ashley Council and was a member of the East Washington United Brethren Church, Ashley, MI.

He is survived by his wife Marcia McGillis, children; Scott and Rachel McGillis, Sara Jean and Theresa McGillis, Kevin and Amanda McGillis, grandchildren; Nathan, Nicholas, Cooper, Easton, and granddaughter on the way Audrie Mae.  He is also survived by his mother Joyce McGillis, and brothers; Ron and Jill McGillis, and Randy and Linda McGillis.  He was preceded in death by his father John and his brother Ross.
