Rodney Mills

Rodney Lee Mills age 62 of Sumner, MI, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Midland, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Rod was born in St. Johns, Michigan on July 7, 1956, the son of Donald William and Hope Joan (Beach) Mills. He graduated from Ashley High School.  On April 20, 2007 Rod married his soul mate Ellen Decker Evans in Stanton, MI.

Rod retired October 1, 2014 from Carson City Correctional Facility after 25 years of service as a corrections officer. Rod proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of American Legion #380, Carson City, MI and the NRA. Rod loved traveling, coin collection, playing cards and football. He was a John Wayne fan, loved horses and enjoyed watching western movies. Above all else his family was most important to him.

He is survived by his wife Ellen Mills of Sumner, MI; daughter: Amanda and Tee Huot of Houston Texas; son: Andrew Mills of Alma, MI; step-daughter: Frances and Jeremiah Beres of Ithaca, MI; grandson: Evan Lee Ottobre of Ithaca, MI; siblings: Karen and Richard Kirkpatrick of Ashley, MI; Nancy Konkus of St. Petersburg, FL;  Don Jr. and Shirley Mills of Canel Winchester, OH; Penny and Rick Wood of Palm Harbor, FL; and Tammi Knick of Wesley Chapel, FL.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Zachary Huot.
