Rodney Parling

Rodney Dean "R.D" Parling, age 54, of East Lansing, Michigan passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Rodney was born in Alma, Michigan on March 29, 1959, the son of Richard and Evelyn (Shaw) Parling. R.D. graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1977. He went on to graduate from ITT Tech with a degree in electrical engineering.

R.D. enjoyed playing poker, poker tournaments and bonfires. He enjoyed watching sports especially Grand Valley and Ithaca football. He spent 14 years in California; he loved hiking in the redwoods, playing horseshoes and spending time in the Yosemite National Park. R.D. was a jack of all trades and liked fixing things and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his parents Dick and Evelyn Parling, his brother Doug and Connie Parling, his sister Kaye and Gerry Gardner, his nieces & nephews; Mickey and Jessica Parling, Michelle Parling, Jerrod Gardner and Levi Gardner. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; William and Carrie Shaw and Verne and Cordie Parling and his niece Angel Gardner.
