Roger William Smith, age 69, of Riverdale, MI passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan.

A Memorial Service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7400 N. Begole Road, Alma, MI 48801 (South of M-46) on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor John Eich officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 5:00-7:30 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI.  Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the Church.

Roger was born in Alma, Michigan on August 28, 1946, the son of Lester and Phylis (Courtney) Smith.  He was a graduate of Alma High School and resided most of his life in Alma, MI.  Roger married Pamela Armstrong on January 10, 1970; Pamela passed away on November 12, 2010.

Roger enjoyed woodworking and horses.  Spending time with his grandchildren Dutch and Wren, and his dog Molly brought him great joy.  Roger will be remembered as always helping others.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  After retirement from GTE he enjoyed working outdoors at North Star Golf Course.  He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Alma, MI

Roger is survived by his daughter Dr. Jennifer and Brad Engel of Chicago, IL, daughter Dr. Tamara Smith and Rick Stephenson of Alma, MI, son Dustin and Sarah Smith of Traverse City, MI, 2 grandchildren Dutch and Wren Smith, mother Phylis Smith of Alma, MI, brother Jim and Barb Smith of Elwell, MI, and brother Marty and Jenny Smith of Alma, MI.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela and his father Lester.
