Roger Steavens

Roger Maurice Steavens age 78, of Elsie, MI, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, MI, on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Andrzej Boroch officiating.  Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, MI.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI.

Roger was born in St. Johns, Michigan on June 3, 1938, the son of Arthur V. and Lucille (Averill) Steavens.  He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1957.  Roger married Alice on June 10, 1961 in Dewitt, Michigan. He retired from Leasway Motor Car in Lansing, Michigan in 1996. Roger enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and being out doors.  He was a big Michigan University football fan.  Roger was a member of the NRA, served his country in the National Guard for 6 years, and was a member of the Elsie American Legion Post.  He was also a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, and the K of C Lodge, Bannister, MI.

He is survived by his wife Alice Steavens of Elsie, MI, daughter Lori Steavens of Chesaning, MI, grandchildren; Christopher Minarik, Justin Minarik, Michael Simmon, Ashley Good, and Alicia Lott, 2 sisters in law; Rosemary Steavens, and Marie (Schafer) Graff, brother in law Roman Schafer, and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, son Jeffrey, and brother Ronald Steavens.
