Roland Calvin Schaadt, age 105, of Harrisville, MI passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel, Elsie, MI on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Edwin Snook officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Fowlerville, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 6-8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Roland was born in Van Wert County, Ohio on July 30, 1905, the son of Anton and Mary (Wittung) Schaadt. He married Mary Benjamin from Fowlerville, Michigan in 1940. Both were graduates of Fowlerville High School. She preceded him in death.

Roland attended Eastern Michigan University where he earned a Life Certificate and Bachelors Degree. He also earned a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan. He retired in 1971 after 42 years of teaching. Roland worked in the Jackson County rural schools, Onomdaga, Livingston County rural schools, Hartland, Morrice and Ovid-Elsie Community Schools. Mathematics and Science were his favorite subjects and he coached athletics for 14 years. He is a life member of the Michigan Education Association, served as President of the Hartland Area Teachers Club, Vice-President of the Livingston County Teachers Organization, President of the Elsie Teachers Club and Treasurer of the Ovid-Elsie Education Association. Roland loved the outdoors and was a hunter, trapper and gardener. He was an avid fox hunter and climbed Mt. Whitney.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters; Lorena Hammer, Bonita Daisher and Edna Warren and his brothers; Leonard, Ted and Wilson Schaadt.
