Rolla Marshal Salter, age 82 of Six Lakes, Michigan passed away Thursday, November 13, 2003 at his home. He worked for Sealed Power Corporation in St. Johns, Michigan retiring in 1997.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel with Pastor Lee Whitman officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 P.M. and Monday 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Rolla was born on February 7, 1921 in Clinton County, Michigan, the son of Marshal Floyd and Lydia Adele (Moon) Salter. He graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1941. On December 24, 1945 he married Dorothy Mae Pratt in St. Johns, Michigan. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a lifetime member of the St. Johns VFW Post #4113. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and feeding birds. He was also a good cook and baker. He resided most of his life in Clinton County, moving to Six Lakes in 1977.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Salter of Six Lakes, MI, 3 daughters, Dianna Salter & Earl of St. Johns, MI, Kathleen Salter & Tony of Chapin, MI, Debbie & Jeff Barrett of St. Johns, MI, 4 grandchildren, Tina & Kurt Ziegler of St. Johns, MI, Teresa & Brian Teelander of St. Johns, MI, Lynsey & Jeff Smith of St. Johns, MI, and Bernard Barrett & Amy of St. Johns, MI, 5 great-grandchildren, Jessi, Brandi, Brian II, Marshal, and Cole, 1 sister, Reva & Jerry Vestal of St. Johns, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers, Robert, Roy, and Dennis, and 1 sister, Viola.
Memorials may be made to the St. Johns VFW Post #4113 or Gratiot County Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.
