Rolland Hankey

Rolland G. Hankey age 93, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Elsie, MI passed away Monday, December 19, 2016, at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Merlin Pratt officiating.  Visitation will be on Saturday from noon until time of the service.  Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI.

Rolland was born in Greenbush Township, MI on February 28, 1923, the son of Peter & Gladys (Weaver) Hankey.  On August 7, 1943 he married Ruth M. Dunham.  Rolland served his country in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater of Operations and was a life member of the American Legion Post 502, DAV and the VFW.  Rolland and Ruth made their first home in Eureka, and then built a house in Elsie. When Aurora gasoline closed in Elsie, they moved to Litchfield, MI for a number of years.  Rolland retired in 1985 after 36 years with Marathon Oil Company. Rolland and Ruth then moved back to Elsie, where they were members of the Elsie United Methodist Church. In 2003, they moved to Tucson, AZ, where they attended Christ Presbyterian Church.

Rolland is survived by his wife Ruth Hankey of Tucson, AZ, daughter Retha & James Davis of Tucson, AZ, 2 sons; Roger Hankey & Cheryl Brown of Eden Prairie, MN, Randall & Laurel  Hankey of Oklahoma City, OK, grandchildren; Oliver & Tara Davis, Logan & Lauren Davis, Rebecca & Ryan Dotson, Cassandra Hankey, Austin Hankey-Brown, and Adria & Mitchel Chavers, 6 great-grandchildren, and sister Carolyn & Harold Slagell of St. Johns, MI.  Rolland was predeceased by his parents and younger brother Raymond & Barbara Hankey.
