Ronwick Smith

Ronwick B. Smith, age 85, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Friday, January 10, 2020, at Warwick Living Center of Alma.

In following Ronwick's wishes, a cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be held at a later date.

Ronwick was born in Alma, Michigan on March 3, 1934, the son of Harlo and Margie (Cook) Smith. He graduated from Ithaca High School and enjoyed singing their fight song to the very end. Ronwick proudly served his county in the U.S. Army.

On March 17, 1951, Ronwick married Annette Elizabeth Gotham in Mason, MI. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage prior to her death on November 20, 2004. After Annette's death, he enjoyed the love and companionship of her dog ChiChi for many years.

Ronwick worked hard to support his family, even selling pots and pans door-to-door after getting married. Ronwick then worked in the logging industry and Detroiter Mobile Homes before working at Total for the last 25 years of his career.

Ronwick helped his father harness race when he was young.  He was a very knowledgeable man able to do about anything. Along with his friend Dick Rogers, Ronwick built a boat and an airplane. His children have special memories of boating and flying in the plane he built. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Ronwick was an exceptionally caring person; whenever anyone needed help he was there to lend a hand.  He especially loved his family and time spent with them. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Ronwick is survived by 6 children:  Norwyn (Donna) Smith of St. Louis, MI, Gary (Noreen) Smith of Wheeler, MI, Ronda (Dennis) LaPaugh of Riverdale, MI, Wenda (Vic) Firman of St. Louis, MI, Glenda (Kevin) Johnson of St. Louis, MI, and Rodrick (Teresa) Smith of St. Louis, MI. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Barbara Daniels and Bonita Lehman: and many nieces and nephews.   Ronwick was preceded in death by his parents, wife Annette, son Rickie Smith, 2 infant grandchildren, an infant great-grandson, and 2 brothers:  Vernal Smith, Harlo "Junior" Smith
