Roy Jay Wilson, age 84, of Elsie, MI passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Clinton Memorial Hospital, St. Johns, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Scott Seelhoff officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday November 14, 2011 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.
Roy was born in Brant, Michigan on July 20, 1927 the son of Jay and Pearl Wilson. Roy resided most of his life in Rochester Colony. Roy married Denise Greenwald on October 5, 2006 in Ovid, MI. Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a collector of coins and Indian artifacts. Roy was a talented guitar player, singer and loved playing cards. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. Roy served in combat in the Korean and German Theaters for 5 years, receiving a Presidential Citation and many other honors. He was a member of the Ovid VFW and Sonshine Community Church, Ovid, MI.
He is survived by his wife Denise Wilson of Elsie, MI, 2 daughters; Phyllis West of Elsie, MI, Roxie and Jerry Greenman of Gladwin, MI, son Larry and Beth Pearce of Elsie, MI, step sons; Matthew Greenwald of Lapeer, MI, Tim Greenwald and fiancée Debbie Dargay of Lapeer, MI, step daughter Cindy and Kevin Romberg of Flint, MI. Roy is also survived by over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Beatrice (Pearce) Wilson, son Phillip Pearce, son-in-law Willis West, granddaughter Monique Bernath, 1 brother and 5 sisters.
