Ruby Elizabeth Matechek, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 26, 2009 at Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center, Durand, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at the Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, Corunna Michigan, on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 from 6-9 P.M. at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Aydelotte and Pastor Dale Lennon will officiate.
Ruby was born in Lennon, Michigan on April 28, 1914, the daughter of Robert J. and Edna Mae (Crandell) Dallas. She graduated from Corunna High School with the class of 1934. She was sales clerk at the former Damm's 5 & 10 store in Corunna for many years. Ruby loved to read and crochet. She resided most of her life in the Corunna area. Ruby lived in her home for many years, moved to an apartment, and then transferred to the Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center, where she lived for three years. She loved the workers at DSCRC and they loved her in return. She has been heard to say, "I've had more fun here than I've ever had before." Ruby received Jesus as her Savior in 2003 and was a member of Faith Bible Church in Vernon for the last six years.
Ruby was a great mother to her children: Leanna (Dick) Ball, Steven Matechek, Marion Kay (Gene) Ellsworth and Kathleen Matechek. Steven passed away in 1950. She was a good mother, taught her children well, was a sweet grandmother to Rick (Hope) Ball, Robin (Dave) Carlson, Tracy (Angel) Ball, Kelly (Bob) Hopton, Alan (Susan) Ellsworth, Steven Ellsworth and Joshua (Nova) Ellsworth. Her nine great grandchildren all loved her.
