Ruby C. Stewart, age 94, of Bannister, Michigan died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Ashley Care Center, Ashley, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel, Elsie, MI, on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Mona Dye and Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Ruby was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on March 15, 1917, the daughter of Roy and Isa (Whitaker) Peck. She graduated from Bannister High School then attended County Normal (CMU) for 2 years receiving her teaching degree.
On December 14, 1947 she married Raymond Stewart in Bannister, Michigan. Raymond died February 24, 2000. She was a farmer's wife and taught public school for 11 years. Ruby enjoyed sewing, woodworking and refinishing furniture. She was a former 4 H leader of Busy Green Clovers for more than 25 years. She was a member of Bannister United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and on many of the church boards.
She is survived by her son Jim and Carol Stewart of Bannister, MI, 2 daughters; Sharon and Douglas Barnes of Jackson, MI, Phyllis and Jack Solberg of Ray, MI, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother in law Clifford Flegel of Ithaca, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 3 sisters, 5 brothers.
