Russell Waters

Russell Edwin Waters age 89, of Ovid, MI, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2017, at We Care Assisted Living Facility, Owosso, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI, on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Judy Hazel officiating.  Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Russell was born in Owosso, MI on February 8, 1928, the son of Henry and Adella (Hall) Waters. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1946. On August 5, 1950 Russell married Virginia LaBeau in Angola, IN.

He worked for the railroad then he went to Michigan Milk Producers working there for 50 years. He retired in 1996. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and going to flea markets. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to him. Russell enjoyed taking photos and photography. He was a member of Shepardsville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Waters of Ovid, MI, son Edwin and Michele Waters of Bradenton, FL, daughter Diane and Charles Coon of Atlanta, MI, 6 grandchildren; Melanie and Tim Schemanski, Christopher and Heather Waters, Becky and Sean Johnson, Nathan and Katelynn Coon,  Zachary and Kara Coon, Nicholas Coon and fiancee Ann Turvey, and 14 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his parents, and step brother Glenn Austin.
