Ruth V. Gearig age 97 of Alma, Michigan died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at Schnepp Health Care Center St. Louis, MI.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel. Bishop Deane Gearig will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery St. Louis, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2005 from 2-6 P.M.

Ruth was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 19, 1907 the daughter of Perry David and Gracie May ( Brundage ) Kiter. She resided most of her life in Alma & St. Louis, Michigan and graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1924. Ruth married Melvin Neal Gearig on March 9, 1927 in Ithaca, Michigan. He died March 11, 1983. She was a homemaker, a 4-H Leader, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of Farm Bureau, and the Ladies Aide Society. She loved to be active in anything her famliy was involved in; her family was her #1 priority. Ruth also made wedding cakes. She loved to garden and could grow plants of all kinds.

She is survived by 2 children; Phyllis Shaull of Alma, MI and Deane & Barbara Gearig of Farmington Hills, MI, 12 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, and 1 sister Helen Root of Alma, MI. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, 9 brothers and sisters and son-in-law Raymond Shaull.

Memorials may be made to Gratiot County Meals on Wheels Program. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
