S. Ford White, age 77, of Corunna, MI passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, Corunna, MI on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Pastor David Strobe will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
Ford was born in Philpot, Kentucky on September 3, 1931, the son of Silas Noel and Mary Ellen (Dunn) White. Ford graduated from Owensboro High School with the class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police officer in Germany from 1952 to 1954. Ford married Gala A. Fairbanks on September 3, 1955 in Owosso, MI. Ford served as a deputy and then as the Chief of Police in Durand until his retirement in 1980. He trained the first Durand/Vernon Ambulance volunteers in 1967. After his retirement he worked for Johnson Controls as a security guard, and also as a currier for Chemical Bank in Owosso. Ford received the God and Country Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He also received Presidential Cuff Links from President Gerald Ford on his official visit to Durand. Ford was a strong supporter of the Shiawassee County Humane Society and the Pets on the Streets Program. He resided most of his life in Shiawassee County. Ford was a member of the Shiawassee County Humane Society, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Michigan Chief of Police Association.
He is survived by wife Gala, two sons; David White of Corunna, MI, Tim and RuiHua Yang White of Holland, MI, granddaughter; Carissa White, and cousin Dorothy Foster of Kentucky. Ford was predeceased by his parents and one sister Willie White.
