S. Adaline Dershem age 95 of St. Johns, MI, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Ingham County Medical Care Center, Okemos, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Lowe United Methodist Church, St. Johns, MI, on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Kathy Leydorf - Keck officiating. Burial will take place at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 until the time of service at the church.
Adaline was born in Illinois on June 6, 1923 the daughter of Andrew and Clarabelle (Ruyle) Duncan. Adaline married Francis Dershem on July 5, 1941 in Conway, South Carolina. Francis passed away on March 15, 2003. Adaline resided most of her life in St. Johns
Adaline was a member of Lowe United Methodist Church and was a former 4-H Leader, she was also involved with Clinton County Extension. Adaline was a bus driver and custodian for East Essex Elementary School for many years. She was an artist and enjoyed crafting. Adaline was talented in oil painting and china painting. She was also a quilter and made quilts for family members. For many years, she spent the winters in warmer climates, such as Florida and Arizona. Adaline spent the last year at Grace Haven Assisted Living. She was born a city girl but married a farmer and had a wonderful life.
She is survived by 4 daughters: Annette and Rod Andrus of St. Johns, MI; Sandy and Phil Vasilion of DeWitt, MI; Denise and Ron Knochel of Camp Verde, AZ; Jenny and Brian Shaw of Ashley, MI; 2 sons: Larry Dershem of Rathdrum, Idaho; Andy Dershem of Cottonwood, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren. Adaline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 daughters-in-law Shelby and Jackie Dershem, 2 grandchildren, 5 brothers: Lyman, Perry, Harold, Charles and Lawrence Duncan; and 3 sisters: Winifred Lefky, Thelma Ely and Phyllis Wren.
