Sandra Doyen
Sandra "Sandy" Lee Doyen age 69 of Ellenton, Florida formerly from Manistee Lake and Elsie, MI left to be with her Lord on December 30, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with AML (leukemia).
A Memorial Service will be held at the Elsie United Methodist Church Elsie, Michigan on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 1:00 P.M.
Sandy was born May 13, 1939 in Chesaning, Michigan to Woodrow and Cordelia Bashore. She married Jan W. Doyen on December 15, 1956 in Elsie, Michigan.
Sandy and Jan lived and raised their family for many years in Elsie, Michigan where they still have many friends and family. In 1983 they left their factory jobs to start a new adventure as owners of The Carefree Cove Resort on Manistee Lake near Kalkaska, Michigan. They sold the resort in 1996, retiring first in Bradenton, Florida to be near her parents. They later moved to Ellenton, Florida where Jan still resides.
Sandy's big smile and infectious laughter always brightened the room and all who knew her came to love her. Her compassion for others always outweighed her own needs. Her grace, strength and dignity under extremely difficult circumstances was a cherished lesson passed to her children. Mom, we love you and will miss you always.
She leaves behind her loving and heartbroken high school sweetheart and husband or 52 years, Jan Doyen, three children, Randy & Robin Doyen of St. Johns, MI, Timothy & Shelly Doyen of Manistee, MI, and Valorie and Richard Zemla of Elsie, MI, 7 grandchildren; Jamie (Tim) Lau and Evan Doyen, Meagan and Merradith Doyen, & Wesley and Steven Zemla, her mother-in-law, Jaunita Doyen of Alma, MI and a brother, Ira & Janice Bashore of Ellenton, FL. Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Woodrow "Woody" and Cordelia Bashore.
