Sara Fuentes, age 79, of Alma, MI died Monday, May 28, 2012 at Gratiot Medical Center Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Alma Church of God 200 W. Superior Street in Alma on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Benjamin Esquivel officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Alma, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 5-8 PM. and Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M at Smith Family Funeral Homes 117 N. East Street St. Louis, MI.

Sara was born in Cuero, Texas on April 17, 1933, the daughter of Jose Maria and Antonia C. (Canales) Ramon. She married Jose Herrera Fuentes on October 5, 1952 in Maple Rapids, MI. Jose passed away October 25, 2004.

Sara had resided most of her life in Alma, and retired from Alma Public Schools as a Para-pro in the Adult Basic Education Program, and worked for Latin-American Affairs. She loved to cook and entertain. She was especially famous for her homemade tortillas and biscuits. Sara loved to read the Bible, tell stories of her youth, garden; especially flowers, crochet, and sew. Sara loved people unconditionally and welcomed anyone in their time of need into her home. She also loved teaching and taught many people English and Spanish. She loved her hometown of Maple Rapids. The most important thing to Sara was her strong faith in God, always showing God's love to all. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School for over 60 years. She was an inspiration and wonderful role model to the rich, poor, educated, and uneducated in life. She was a lifetime member of the Assembly of God.

She is survived by her son Honda-Joe and Julie Fuentes of St. Louis, MI, son Carlos and Beatrice Fuentes of Lansing, MI, daughter Sandra Fuentes Bosker of Canton, MI, son Edgar "Tito" Fuentes of Alma, MI, son Timothy and Dawn Fuentes of Howell, MI, son Aaron and Megan Fuentes of Breckenridge, MI, grandchildren; Jamie, Landi, Joey, Erika, Chelsee, Joel, Isaiah, Luke, Benjamin, Franchesca, Carley, Nick, Noel, Andreas, Kaylene, Nathan, Ayrilyn, and Nehemiah, great grandchildren; Torri, Logan, Jordan, Miranda, Adin, Willow, Liam, Ashley & Trevor, Brody, Trace, and Madison, 6 brothers; Ernie and Minnie Ramon of Saginaw, MI, Bernie and Nancy Ramon of Grand Ledge, MI, Phil and Ruthie Ramon of Manistee, MI, Ruben and Joyce Ramon of Manistee, MI, Joey and Connie Ramon of Manistee, MI, and Peter and Cathy Ramon of Manistee, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, and stepmother Chelo Ramon, husband, daughter Vivian Fuentes, sister Martha, and brother Daniel.
