Sarah Elizabeth Freeman, age 84, of East Tawas, MI, formerly of Owosso, MI died Friday, May 1, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital in East Tawas, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso, MI on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Fr. John Fain will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul Cemetery in Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI. Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Monday at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI.
Sarah was born in Missaukee County, Michigan on January 27, 1925, the daughter of George W. and Nellie (Kornoely) Durgan. Sarah graduated from Merritt high School with the class of 1943. She was married to Francis J. Freeman on March 31, 1951 in Owosso, Michigan. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1980. Sarah had worked at Redmonds, Universal Electric & Toledo Commutator retiring in 1983. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, quilting, and was a killer skip-bo player. Sarah moved to Owosso in 1943 from Merritt, and was a member of V.F.W. Post 9455 Ladies Auxillary, Owosso. She was also a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso, MI, and the St. Paul's Altar Society.
She is survived by a son Joseph Freeman of Owosso, MI; daughter Janice Lester of Owosso, MI; daughter Joyce and Jack Laverty of Elsie, MI; son James and Marcia Freeman of Owosso, MI; daughter Judy and Dale Hier of Elsie, MI; daughter Joann and Phillip Sage of East Tawas, MI; daughter Jane and Henry Hepfner of Owosso, MI; son John and Lisa Freeman of Owosso, MI; 23 Grandchildren; and 24 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers Peter and Sylvester, 1 sister Helen, and a daughter-in-law Janice Freeman.
