Sharon Kay (Hoffer) Hayes

      Sharon Kay Hayes, age 78, of Ithaca, MI, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Maple View Retirement Community, Ithaca, Michigan.

      Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, with Pastor Phil Maxwell officiating. Burial will take place at Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

      Sharon was born in Alma, Michigan on December 15, 1945, the daughter of Harley and Dorothy Jane (Maxwell) Hoffer. She graduated from Fulton High School with the Class of 1964, where she was the DAR Good Citizen of the year. She then attended Central Michigan University where she met two of her best friends, Barb and Vikki.  On July 1, 1967, Sharon married Kenneth Lynn Hayes at the Ithaca Church of God. They have been married over fifty-seven years.

       Sharon's faith was the bedrock of her life. She taught Sunday School at the Ithaca United Brethren Church for over twenty years. Her faith in the Lord guided her throughout her entire life.

      Sharon was an avid hobbyist, including lighthouses, photography, coloring, and butterflies. Most of all, Sharon loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She worked for Leonard Refinery (later Total Refinery) for eighteen years and enjoyed working at Downtown Dime for over twenty years.

      She is survived by her husband Ken; son Troy (Kimberly) Hayes; daughter Julie Hayes; and daughter Laurie Little; six grandchildren: Cameron, Kaitlyn, Emilee, Mary, Andrew, and Alexandria; and a very special brother Miles (Pat) Hoffer. She was preceded in death by her parents Harley and Dorothy Hoffer, in-laws Fred and Bernice Hayes, and infant son Scott.

      Memorials may be made to Maple View Retirement Community - Rich and Helen Hospice Suite - 4396 S. Luce Rd. Ithaca, MI 48847.
