Sharon Kay (Hutchinson) Pierce

      Sharon Kay Pierce, age 82, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her home.

      A Memorial Service will be held at Forest Hill Church of Christ, Alma, MI, on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. with Minister John Robinson officiating.  

     Sharon was born in Alma, Michigan on May 12, 1941, the daughter of Melvin Willis and Martha Doll (Gabby) Hutchinson.  She graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1959 and a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from Central Michigan University.  On July 6, 1963, Sharon married Donald Lee Pierce at Forest Hill Church of Christ. They were blessed with nearly fifty years of marriage prior to his passing on February 5, 2013.

     Sharon loved to travel; she visited forty-seven of the fifty states. She was an avid reader and spending time with her grandchildren, and great- granddaughter was very important to her.  She was a teacher and her first location she taught at was Alma Republic School. She then went to Ithaca Public Schools where she taught at South and North Elementary Schools. She retired in 1996, and would like to mention that she was retired longer than she taught.  She was a member of Forest Hill Church of Christ.

     She is survived by her daughter Paula Ledezma, Lake Havasu, AZ; her son Russell and Mary Pierce St. Johns, MI; two grandchildren: Jacob and fiancé Taylor Teegarden Pierce, and Owen Pierce; one great-granddaughter Maren Pierce; three sisters: Marie Decess, Margilee Schlachter, and Dianne and Gary Miller; one brother William and Diane Hutchinson; and her sister- in-law Marian Pierce.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, two brothers-in-law: Ken Decess, and Ben Schlachter; and her special companion Larry Mott.
