Shirley Ann Allen, age 72, of Owosso, MI passed away Monday, July 6, 2009 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Minister Steve Lockwood will officiate with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 8, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel.
Shirley was born in Owosso, Michigan on November 30, 1936, the daughter of Robert and Clara (Carmody) Langdon. She resided most of her life in Owosso and Ohio. Shirley married Richard Allen on November 6, 1954 in Freemont, IN at the Methodist Church. She was a member of the Owosso Church of Christ on N. M-52.
Shirley loved to cook and was an excellent cook. She worked at many different places in the Owosso area including Mitchell Bentley, Byerly's Grocery Store, Woodard Furniture, Oldsmobile in Lansing and then A&P Grocery. Shirley was a life member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary as well as a life member of the Eaton Rapids VFW National Home for Children. She enjoyed being outside and caring for her flowers. She and Richard traveled on their motorcycle taking many trips over the years.
Shirley is survived by her husband Richard Allen of Owosso, MI, 2 daughters; Shelley and Fred Shimunec of Owosso, MI & Nadine and Ron Forsythe of Fenton, MI, 2 grandsons; Travis Whitman of Fenton, MI & Troy Whitman of Fenton, MI, mother-in-law Lora Allen Johnson of Arizona, sister-in-law Mary Langdon of Muncie, IN, and brother-in-law Duane and Janine Allen of Arizona. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a cousin and many friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Nanette Allen and brother Robert Langdon.
