Shirley L. Craig, age 88, of Maple Rapids, MI, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, surrounded by her family at Manatee Springs, Bradenton, Florida.
Funeral Services will be held at Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, with Pastor Jerry Kissling officiating. Burial will take place at Payne Cemetery, Fulton Twp., MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
Shirley was born in St. Johns, Michigan on December 1, 1936, the daughter of Clarence and Althea (Smith) Conklin. She graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1955. Shirley married James D. Craig on August 31, 1957, in Maple Rapids, MI. They were blessed with sixty-two years of marriage, prior to his passing on November 28, 2019.
Shirley enjoyed aerobic exercise, bowling, and meeting up with friends to walk and was an avid MSU fan. Jim and Shirley always had a bountiful garden and she canned their produce to share with family and friends. Together they loved music, especially polka, square dancing and attending many concerts. Shirley looked forward to shopping and lunch dates with her daughter. She shared her knowledge of cooking and canning with family and will be remembered for her homemade cookies and pies. Shirley attended church in Maple Rapids at the Congregational Christian Church where she taught bible school, Sunday school and helped with funeral luncheons. While in Florida she attended Samoset First Baptist Church. She was also a very active member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by four children: Daniel Craig of Carson City, MI; Teresa Moon (Robert Avey) of Middleton, MI; Brian and Vera Craig of McAlester, Oklahoma; Jeffery and Barbara Craig of Perrinton, MI; her grandchildren: Amber and Josh Eberhart, Tyler Craig, Jesse and Meghan Moon, James Moon, and Cole Craig; great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Stella Eberhart, Jeanie Moon, Brantley and Jozlynne Moon. She is also survived by her siblings: Ruth and Bill Foerch, Erna White, Carole and Dennis Brauher, George Conklin, Duane Conklin and many nieces, nephews, friends in Michigan and Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, siblings: Lowell Conklin and Helen Goodknecht.
