Shirley Mae (Allspaugh) Czape, 87, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at The Laurels of Carson City, Carson City, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Ithaca, MI, on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Edwin Dwyer presiding. Burial will be at Chapel Garden Cemetery, Elwell, MI. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass at the church.
Shirley was born in St. Louis, MI on September 5, 1933, the daughter of Vernon L. and Frieda M. (Staffeldt) Allspaugh. She graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1951.
On November 23, 1951, Shirley married Frederick "Fred" Czape Jr. at St. Mary's Catholic Church Rectory, Alma, MI. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage before his passing on August 10, 2018.
Shirley was a loving, strong-willed, multi-talented lady. She was very artistic and loved knitting, crocheting, ceramics, and sewing. Shirley enjoyed collectables, especially figurines, Hallmark ornaments, and many other things. She liked playing the lottery. She was an avid bowler and was head of the Ithaca YBA for over 10 years.
Shirley was very generous and loving. In spite of her struggle with many health issues over the years, she dedicated her life to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She always took an active interest in each of their lives. Over the years, she was involved in various activities that interested her children. She loved her pets and all animals.
Shirley is survived by her children: Kristine Czape of Ithaca, Jeanine (Terry Rozen) Czape of St. Charles, and Bryan (Lynn) Czape of Lapeer; and 2 grandsons: Jared Czape and Brady Czape. She is also survived by brothers-in-law: Bill and John; sister-in-law Jane, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, sister Janet (Leo "Bud") Goodyear, infant sister, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
