Shirley Marie Evans age 95 of rural Ashley passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Ashley Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 10:30 A.M., with Pastor Mona Dye officiating.  Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Shirley was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on June 16, 1921, the daughter of George F. and Anna Marie (Koch) Kremer.  She grew up on a farm outside of Elsie, MI with her five brothers and one sister during the depression years.  Shirley then resided most of her life in Ashley.

Shirley married Merlin Starr Evans on May 18, 1946.  Merlin passed away on August 25, 1957.  Shirley was left with three young children to raise.  Shirley loved her farm and garden, especially digging potatoes and picking mushrooms. She also enjoyed bird watching.

We were truly blessed for the gift of our Mother "Well done, good and faithful servant."

All brothers, sister, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law preceded her in death, they include; Edward and Christine Kremer, George and Vernitta Kremer, Marcus and Maxine Kremer, Jacob Kremer, Forest and Dorothy Kremer, Leafy and Earl Hornback, William and Helen Evans, Tom and Jean Evans, Ford and Olive Evans, Hilda and Don Archer, Margaret and Jacob Kramer and a nephew Jack Archer.

Surviving are her children; Ed and Edna Evans of Bannister, Tim and Chris Evans of Elsie, Mary Ann and Ed Feldpausch of Pewamo, 6 grandchildren; Deena and Ken Haley of Brighton, Mary and Mark Jacobsen of Holt, Amy and Mike Thelen of Pewamo, Ellie and Jeff Thelen of Pewamo, Garrett Feldpausch of Atlanta, GA and Jennifer Evans of Ventura, CA, as well as 12 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Morris, the nurses and staff at Ashley Care Center for their care and kindness.
