Shirley Luella Mayle was born in Belding, Michigan on December 12, 1926, to Chester Arthur and Frances (Hunter) Arcond. Shirley, age 91 of Elsie, MI, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be held at the United Church of Ovid, Ovid, MI at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 with Pastor Robert Nystrom officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 5-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI.
She was a graduate of Port Huron High School. Shirley married Donald on April 19, 1947 in Flint, MI. After her children were grown she returned to Delta College in her 50's to receive her nursing degree and worked until she was 68. She resided most of her life in Flint and Elsie.
Shirley loved to read and sing. Creation came naturally to her in the form of writing and poetry. She had a beautiful and active mind that would never slow down; she noted everything as she thought it. Her faith in God was a big part of her life. She read her bible daily and had prepared since childhood to meet Jesus. But most importantly, her family was her life. She will be remembered for her mothering to all. Shirley was a member of the United Church of Ovid.
She is survived by her husband : Don Mayle of Saginaw, MI; 4 daughters: Cheryl Mayle of Saginaw, MI; Mary Mayle of Magdelena, NM; Donna Mayle of Hollister, CA; Sally and Jonathon Mayle-Iler of Elsie, MI; son: Donald and Ellen Mayle of Fowlerville, MI; 10 grandchildren: Anna (Steve), Ivan (Michelle), Granville (Kara), Sarah, Kai (Jennifer), Cathleen (Jacob), Luke (Christin), Nathaniel, William and Joseph; 2 great-grandchildren: Dennis and Kaila Kaye. Shirley is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and her special family at Elsie Meadows, especially Lillian, Mary and Jacob. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and step-father Henry Carr, her siblings Cecelia (Melvin), Elaine (Everett), Effie (Leo) and John. She was the last member of her generation in her immediate family.
