Shirley Ann Sparks, age 60, of St. Louis, MI passed away Saturday, March 21st, 2009 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma, after a 17 year battle with breast and bone cancer. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel on Tuesday, March 24th at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be on Monday from 2-8 P.M. with family 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Burial will take place at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Breckenridge, MI. Mr. Keith Wise will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Shirley was born in Saginaw, Michigan on February 25, 1949, the daughter of Ernest Nieman and Beulah (Battley) Nieman. She graduated from Breckenridge High School. She was married to Rex Sparks on November 13, 1965 in St.Louis.
She was employed by Lear Corp. in Alma for many years. Shirley resided most of her life in St.Louis. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren places and spending time with them. She also liked to go on vacation with her sisters and her mother, and enjoyed being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband Rex Sparks of St.Louis, MI; a daughter Shelley and Mike Fairchild of St.Louis, MI; a son Troy and Melanie Sparks of Riverdale, MI; 2 Granddaughters Kristina Fairchild of St.Louis and Melissa Sparks of Riverdale, MI; her mother Beulah Nieman of St.Louis, MI;mother in law Norma Rooks of St. Louis, MI; sister Barbara and Dennis Netzley of Mt.Pleasant, MI; brother Ernest "Sonny" and Joyce Nieman of Alma, MI; a sister Irene Clark of Flint, MI; brother James and Debbie Nieman of Freeland, MI; and several other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father, and a brother in law Kenneth Clark.
