Shirley "Jean" Nevins age 96, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Hearts Content Adult Foster Care Home, Breckenridge, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI, on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Terri Bentley officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Jean was born in Emerson Township, MI on September 22, 1921, the daughter of John Lang and Mary Lenore (Case) Smith. She graduated from Breckenridge High School with the class of 1938. Jean went on to attend Mrs. Hildreth's Business College in St. Louis. Jean married Claude Warren Nevins on March 16, 1940, in Ithaca, MI; Claude passed away on May 28, 1967.
Jean retired from the city of St. Louis as a Bookkeeper after 32 years of service. She was a member of the City Council, Housing Commission, Oak Grove Cemetery Board, and Board of Review. She received the St. Louis Citizen of the year award in 2008. Jean did clothing alterations out of her home for 70 years. She loved gardening and working in her yard.
She is survived by her daughter: Sharon and Jak Brannan of St. Louis, MI; granddaughter: Holly Brannan of St. Louis, MI; grandson: Patrick and Jessica Brannan of Caseville, MI; granddaughter: Amy Brannan of Romulus, MI; 3 great grandchildren: Rowan, Erin, and Jackson, and sister: Lenore Muscott of St. Johns, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, great granddaughter: Katie, and siblings: Kenny, Margaret, and Rachel.
