Stephney Vera Alice Canute, age 62, of Owosso, MI died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center, Durand, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. John Walworth officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 and Friday, December 16, 2011 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Stephney was born in Owosso, Michigan on June 19, 1949, the daughter of Ira J. and Devora Joan (Kirby) Sewell. She graduated from Corunna High School with the class of 1968. Stephney enjoyed crocheting, baking, and immensely loved being with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her parents Ira and Devora Sewell of Vernon, MI, son Jeffery and Wanda Matlock of Suffolk, VA, daughter Lisa Matlock of Bancroft, MI, daughter Peggy and Kelly Adams of Owosso, MI, daughter Gail Cords and special daughter Julie Parsell of Swartz Creek, MI, daughter Rebecca and Timothy Plant of Durand, MI, 7 grandchildren; Jeffery Jr., Tiffany, Vickey, Krista, Alexandra, Kaitlyn, Logan, great grandchild Brooklynn, 2 brothers; Ira and Bonnie Sewell of Burton, MI, Lawrence and Carla Sewell of Corunna, MI, and sister Cynthia Nichols of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her sister Vickey Joan Sewell, and grandma & grandpa Kirby.
