Steve L. Koval age 87 of Alma, MI died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Gratiot Medical Center, Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. Deacon John Cremin will officiate with burial at Chapel Garden Cemetery Elwell, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI.
Steve was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 18, 1921, the son of Stephen and Mary Koval. He resided most of his life in Gratiot County, MI. Steve married Donna Burr on December 30, 1948 in Mt. Pleasant, MI. He served in the U.S. Navy and in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. Steve retired from Whitman Industries in 1979. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and bike riding. Steve and his family traveled to all 50 states. He loved to play pool, and he was a handyman. He also loved dogs and he loved to farm. Steve built seven homes including his current residence that he built when he was 80 years old. He also had just finished building his last utility trailer at Christmas. Steve was a member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, MI and a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife Donna Koval of Alma, MI, and his son Dennis Koval of Alma, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, son Matthew in 2005, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
