Steven Henry Hanzlovic, age 61, "Mr. H." to his many students, of Owosso, MI passed away Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso.
A Private Family Service to honor his life will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI on Saturday, November 22nd, 1-2:30 pm. His friends are invited to join in a celebration of his life from 3-6 PM at Lefty's Steakhouse, 1865 East M-21, Owosso, MI.
Steven was born in Owosso on September 14, 1947, the son of Steve V. and Norma M. (Schultz) Hanzlovic. He resided in Ann Arbor for most of his life, before returning to Owosso. He attended Bryant Elementary School and graduated from Owosso High School with the class of 1965, serving as Class President for four years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1973 and a Master of Liberal Studies Degree in 1995, both from the University of Michigan. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He worked as a substitute teacher in Owosso and surrounding areas, retired from Morrice Schools in Special Education and was an independent tutor for children and with the Shiawassee Area Literacy Association (SALA). He was a member of the YMCA and SALA.
Steven is survived by his mother, Norma Hanzlovic of Owosso, MI; his three children: Andrea S., A. Duane and Nathan A. Hanzlovic, and several loving grandchildren, all of Texas; two sisters, N. Joyce (Joseph) Juarez of South Bend, IN, Patricia M. (Dennis) Smith of ChaddsFord, PA; a brother, Jack (Susy) Hanzlovic of Lake Forest, IL, and three aunts, Theresa Polak of Illinois, Mildred (William)Weidman of Owosso, MI, and Pauline Polsgrove of Flint, MI, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Steve V. Hanzlovic, grandparents and several aunts and uncles. He will be remembered fondly by many students and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the Hanzlovic family requests memorials may be made in Steven's honor to the Shiawassee District Library for children's books.
