Susan Margaret "Sue" Grieve

      Susan Margaret "Sue" Grieve, age 80, of Elsie, MI, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at her home.
     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Big Rapids, MI on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 1:00 P.M.
     Susan was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on June 29, 1944, the daughter of Frederick A. and Margaret M. (Tighe) Miller.
     Sue graduated from high school in Bloomington, Minnesota in 1962. She went onto Ferris State College to pursue a degree in Elementary Education, graduating in 1967. Sue taught early elementary at Ovid-Elsie Area Schools, primarily kindergarten and developmental kindergarten. She had a long and dedicated career at O-E. She retired in the early 2000's, and continued to reside in Elsie. After retirement, Sue spent many years volunteering with the Steam Railroad Institute in Owosso. Her favorite memories include the North Pole Express and attending Wharton Broadway Series with family. She also met regularly with her friends from O-E for lunch to solve the world's problems. Sue was feisty and stubborn, traits that seemed to be genetically linked as they have manifested in both her children and grandchildren. She had a sassy sense of humor that was only inherited by her son and his need for Dad jokes. Her humor and spicy language at inappropriate times (inherited by her youngest) will be missed. She passed peacefully at home where she had always insisted she would. Her family is still wondering if it was indeed done in spite to get them to come to the mitten in the dead of winter when they had escaped to warmer climates. She was a dedicated fan of Detroit sports. She loved her kids and family fiercely and was the cornerstone of the family.
     She is survived by her children: Rick and Cheri Grieve of Bowling Green, KY; Kelly Grieve and Chris Adamson of Grand Rapids, MI; and Robyn and Mark Sodders of Union, WA; her grandchildren: Greg and Kaitlyn Grieve of Bowling Green, KY; Logan Grieve of Bowling Green, KY; Keagan Adamson of Grand Rapids, MI; Quinn Adamson of Grand Rapids, MI; and great-granddaughters: Annaliese and Rosemary Grieve. She is also survived by her cousin Mike and Karen Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by her parents, great-grandson Ricky Grieve, great-aunts: Kay & Virginia, and sister-in-law JoAnn McCracken.
