Terry Schmidt

Terry J Schmidt age 60 of Standish, MI passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at McLaren Medical Center, Bay City, MI. Terry battled a lengthy but courageous fight with a 2011 diagnosis of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia that was complicated further in early 2018 with an additional diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Terry was born in Bay City, MI on April 28, 1958 the son of Sherman and Joy (Wilson) Schmidt. He married Sandra Lynn Arnold on October 15, 1983 in Standish, MI.
Terry graduated from Standish Sterling Central High School in 1976 and earned a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering at Michigan Technological University. He was a life member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Standish.
Terry along with wife Sandy and sons: Josh (Hannah) and Kyle (Courtney) own and operate TJ Schmidt & Company, a premier traveling carnival in Michigan. The midway was where Terry felt most at home, entertaining generations of festival and fair goers, although most of the time, if not at his desk, he preferred to be in charge of the behind the scenes operations. His legacy will be proudly carried on through his family.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Schmidt of Standish, MI; two sons: Joshua and Hannah Schmidt of Ithaca, MI; and Kyle and Courtney Schmidt of Riverview, FL. Josh and Hannah blessed Terry and Sandy with two beautiful granddaughters; Marley and Harper who were the light of his life. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of another precious granddaughter due in late August to Kyle and Courtney.
Terry was the oldest of four siblings that included sister Nancy and (Larry) Mardon of Standish, MI; brother Doug and (Kathy) Schmidt of Standish, MI; and sister Peggy and (Tony) Anderson of Standish, MI.  He is also survived by his father and mother in law Ivan and Agnes Arnold of Riverview, FL; brothers in law: Thomas Arnold of Riverview, FL; and Jon and Karen Arnold of Riverview, FL, as well as nephews: Adam Schmidt, Keith Schmidt, Ryan (Samantha) Schmidt, Cody Raquepaw, Jason Anderson and Alex Arnold, nieces: Jackie Anderson, Lauren Arnold, Jillian Arnold and Heather (Bradley) Loper. He is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Terry was assisted by 6 of his dearest longtime friends serving as pallbearers: DJ Robinson, John Cardinal, John Ouillette, Douglas Burtch, Jerome Kusey and Andrew Goick.
The Funeral Services were held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Standish on Thursday, July 26, 2018 with Pastor Matthew Dent officiating. Burial has taken place at Woodmere Cemetery, Standish MI.
