Thelma Edna Harris, age 95, of Owosso, MI passed away Monday, November 23, 2009 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility, Corunna, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Monday, November 30, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Ralph Parkin will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple River Cemetery Shiawassee Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 29, 2009 from 11-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Thelma was born in Chapin, Michigan on May 25, 1914, the daughter of Clayton and Florence H. (Reed) Nethaway. She married Maurice Harris on May 29, 1936 in Paulding, OH. Together they had 10 children, the family moving to Owosso in 1937. She was a beloved Mother who exemplified the true meaning of unconditional love by caring for her step and birth children equally, creating one family.
Thelma worked in the laundry at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility for 11 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Owosso where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She loved music, crafting, knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter Mable (Dale) Reid of Owosso, MI, son R. Ray of Florida, son Charles (Ada) Harris of Nevada, daughter JoAnn (Cliff) Haut of Traverse City, MI, son Jack Harris of Connecticut, son George (Paula) Harris of Laingsburg, MI, daughter Mary Jane (Howard) Stone of Minnesota, daughter Rebecca (Tom Greetis) Harris of Boyne City, MI, daughters-in-law; Verna and Betty Harris, 31 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren, 4 sisters; Wilma Willitts of Chesaning, MI, Marie Johns of Owosso, MI, Pat Vogl of Henderson, MI, Doris Chaney of Curran, MI and brother Clayton Nethaway of Lake, MI.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons; Thomas Lee and Glenn Edward Harris, 2 grandsons; Jamie and Bruce Harris, 2 great-grandsons; Ryan Robinson and Russell Harris, daughter-in-law Chris Harris, sister Mable Paseka and brother Melvin Nethaway.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Owosso, Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee or Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility. The family would like to thank the Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility staff for the excellent care of their mother.
