Theodore Walter Schlarf age 87 of Perrinton, MI, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, on Friday, September 4, 2020, at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Burial will take place at New Haven Township Cemetery, New Haven Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Ted was born in Ithaca, MI on July 5, 1933, the son R. G. and Lottie (Walter) Schlarf. Ted graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1952. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. On February 10, 1956, Ted married Laura Louise Hector in Grand Ledge, MI; Laura passed away on November 9, 2016.
Ted had worked with his father as a well driller in his early years; he also worked for Wolverine Shoe Company, Swiss Meat Processing, Wetzel Farms, and Ithaca Lumber where he retired from. He enjoyed old cars, fishing and attending tractor pulls.
He is survived by his children: son Raymond Schlarf of Perrinton, MI; daughter Sue and John Smolka of Ithaca, MI; 2 grandchildren: Jeremy Smolka and Ranae Wolfe of St. Louis, MI; Stephanie and Jacob Hodges of Alma, MI; great-granddaughter Samantha and Garrett Marcy of Norfolk, VA; great-grandson Jacob Hodges Jr. of Alma, MI; brother Robert Schlarf of Ithaca, MI; and sister Harriet Miller of Ithaca, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Laura, and 3 sisters: Leona Elliott, Barbara Kanine, and Shirley Gath.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice, 3007 North Saginaw Road, Midland, MI 48640. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Mid- Michigan Hospice for their care and compassion during this time, they would also like to thank his care givers, Chris Emery and Tina Gray.
