Thomas Hufnagel

Thomas Gilbert "Tom" Hufnagel age 78, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018, at Sparrow Health Systems, Lansing, MI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI, on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Mike Williams officiating.  Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel. A Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Thomas was born in Fowler, MI on June 22, 1940, the son of Nicholas and Rose (Simon) Hufnagel.  Tom married Nancy Sackrider. He worked 13 years at Gordon Food Service out of Lansing. He had retired after 16 years of service from St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI. He loved his family very much. Tom was an all-sports enthusiast, liked gardening and woodworking.  He always enjoyed attending family sporting events and activities. He was a member of Big Brother, Big Sister; Knights of Columbus; and St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was also an usher and a Eucharistic Minister. Tom felt that a stranger was just a friend you hadn't met yet.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Hufnagel; children: Patty and Steve Baxter, Carol Boak, and Jeanette Dubendorf; grandchildren: Brandi, Erin, Nathaniel, Megan, Alex, Monica, Derrek, and Trevor; great-grandchildren: Clara and AJ; brothers: Clem and Marie Hufnagel, Frank and Kay Hufnagel, and Jim and Carrie Hufnagel; sisters: Celeste Heckman, Esther Eisler, Helen Hungerford, and Mary Arnold. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dawn, and his brother Chuck.
