Thomas E. Mahar, age 94, of Haslett, MI passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Serenity House, Bancroft, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Chaplain Beverly Adcock will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday February 11, 2009 from 6-8 PM and Thursday, February 12, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Freemont Cemetery, Bancroft, MI.
Thomas was born in Olive Township, Clinton County, Michigan on May 24, 1914, the son of Thomas F. Mahar and Grace Losey. He attended Rodney B. Wilson High School, St. Johns, MI.
In March of 1941 Tom married Helen Black in Ithaca, she passed away in March of 1974. He then married Loya Lawrence in Bancroft in November of 1977, she passed away in February of 1991.
Tom was a member of the Masons since 1948, a member of the Eastern Star and a member of the Grange for more than 25 years. He was also a member of the Congregational Church in Bancroft. Tom farmed in Ithaca for five years when first married, then worked in a shop at the Durand Railroad for two years. He drove a milk truck and farmed in Livingston County near Fowlerville for 33 years. Tom was a Detroit Tigers fan.
He is survived by 2 brothers Gordon and Lela Mahar of St. Johns, MI & Robert Mahar of Byron, MI, and grandson Kevin Glover of Fowlerville, MI. Tom is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many stepfamily members.
