Thomas Powelson

Thomas Stanley “Tom” Powelson age 62, of Elsie, MI, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016, at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, with Pastor Mona Kindel officiating. Burial will take place at Hamilton Township Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI.  Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Thomas was born in Carson City, Michigan on July 12, 1954, the son of George Alfred and Bernice Irene (Keck) Powelson.  He graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1973.  Tom married Elaine Casassa on March 19, 2016 at Albee Township Hall, Burt, MI.  Tom was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was also on the Ashley Fire Department. He enjoyed farming, cooking and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Elaine Powelson, daughter Jenny and Dan McCulloch of St. Charles, MI, sister Charlotte and Jimmie Vaughn of Edmore, MI, grandson Austin Powelson of Chesaning, MI, Austin's siblings; Dakota and Shyanne Sutter, Austin's mother Krista and Randy Sutter, special friends Terry and Tina Good of Brant, MI and their children; Brookelyn and Nathan Good and lifelong friend Steve Strouse of Elmira, MI.  He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in law John and Delores Casassa, son Tommy Powelson in February of 2000 and sister in law Karen Woodyard.
