Valeria Flegel

Valeria Ann Flegel age 81, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, on Monday, August 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor George Showers officiating.  Burial will take place at Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 3:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Valeria was born in Ionia, Michigan on June 19, 1935, the daughter of Ernest Edmund and Clara Marie (Grams) Purdy.  Valeria married Mervin Flegel on March 18, 1950, in Angola, Indiana.

Val was a teacher’s aide at Ithaca Schools for many years.  She was an office manager at Dr. John Allen's for over 40 years in Ithaca.  Val enjoyed going to the casino, mushrooming, and sewing. She made clothes for her children while they were growing up.  Val loved to plan and organize their Canadian snowmobile trips, she snowmobiled until she was in her later 70's. Val was always prepared on their family trips; if you needed something she had it. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Mervin Flegel, children; Linda and George Hessbrook, Cathy and Bob Patterson, Larry Flegel, Vic and Tina Flegel, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and brother Edmund and Jean Purdy.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Val was preceded in death by her parents and sister Judy Conroy.
