Valerie Sue Gillespie

     Valerie Sue "Val" Gillespie, age 72, of St. Johns, MI, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at The Laurels of Carson City, Carson City, MI.
     Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, with Pastor Tyler Barlage officiating. Burial will take place at Union Home Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel and Saturday the hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
     Valerie was born in St. Johns, Michigan on September 27, 1952, the daughter of Oliver Denton and Eileen Sarahbel (Gardner) Gillespie. Valerie graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1971. She went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree from Davenport College in Grand Rapids. Val retired from USDA Farm Service Agency in St. Johns. She enjoyed crocheting and puzzles books. She loved spending time with her family especially shopping trips with her sister Laura.
     She is survived by her siblings: Dennis and Karen Gillespie of St. Johns, MI; Charleen and Alberto Faccilongo of Kansas City, MO; John Gillespie of St. Johns, MI; and Laura Gillespie of St. Johns, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and aunt & uncle.
