Valjean Steggall

Valjean Ione Steggall, age 88, of Lakeview, MI formerly of Owosso, MI passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Spectrum Health Kelsey Hospital, Lakeview, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Calvin Long will officiate. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 14, 2009 from 2-8 PM with the family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso.

Valjean was born in Kinzua, Pennsylvania on January 30, 1921, the daughter of Hector and Hazel (Dean) English. She was a Owosso High School graduate and resided most of her life in Owosso. Valjean married Ray Steggall on June 29, 1940 in Owosso. Ray passed away on December 22, 1998.

Valjean worked in the office at Montgomery Wards of Owosso and was the Deputy Treasurer of Bennington Township for 3 years. She devoted her time as an active volunteer with YWCA, for many different Election Boards, American Red Cross and Memorial Healthcare Hospital Auxiliary.

Valjean is survived by 2 sons; Thomas Steggall (wife Sue) of Bay City, MI, and Jerae Steggall of Middleton, CO, grandchildren Nancy Rauzi (husband Zack) of Littleton, CO, Mike Goebal (wife Trinesha & their family) of Grand Ledge, MI, sister Sue Burgess (husband Ben & their family) of Owosso, MI, and brother Wayne English (wife Betty & their family) of Corunna, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Cindy (father Jerae) and her brother Dean English (wife Joyce & son).
