Velia M. Masley age 83 of St. Louis, Michigan died Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Gratiot Medical Center Alma, MI.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at 4:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church St. Louis, MI. Pastor Lillian French will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Velia was born in New Baden, Illinois on June 25, 1922 the daughter of John and Maria ( Marcuzzo ) Costa. She resided most of her life in Lincoln Park, Michigan until moving to St. Louis a year ago. She graduated from Southwestern High School in Detroit, Michigan with the class of 1941. Velia married Lidio DeBernardo in Detroit, Michigan on September 6, 1941. He died July 17, 1970. She then married Stephen Masley on December 2, 1972 in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Velia worked as a salesperson for J.L. Hudsons Co. in Lincoln Park and Taylor for many years. She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook Italian food, garden, and take care of her husband.
She is survived by her husband Stephen Masley of St. Louis, MI, daughter Linda & Eric Johnson of St. Louis, MI, 5 grandchildren; Jeremy & Benjamin Johnson, Gina, Ciana, & Angela DeBernardo, brother Bruno Costa of California, several special nieces & nephews, and daughter-in-law Barbara DeBernardo of Port Orange, FL. She is predeceased by her parents, first husband, and a son Larry DeBernardo.
Memorials may be made to the United Way of Gratiot County. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel, 117 North East Street, St. Louis, MI 48880.
