Vera E. ( Eckelbarger ) Whitford age 83 of Ithaca, MI passed away at home on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 with her family at her side after a long battle with leukemia.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. Pastor John Wood & Pastor Robb Ryerse will officiate with burial at Ithaca Cemetery Ithaca, Michigan.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 9, 2005 from 5-8 P.M.
Vera was born in New Haven Township on August 31, 1921 the daughter of Clifford and Nellie ( Pendell ) McVeigh. She resided most of her life in Northstar & Newark Township and graduated from Fulton High School with the class of 1939. Vera married her first husband Kiel Eckelbarger on November 6, 1941 in Ithaca, Michigan. He passed away on March 1, 1982. On October 24, 1998 she married Lyle C. Whitford at the Church of God in Ithaca, MI. She was a homemaker, working for many years on the farm with her husband Kiel. She enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening, and wintering in Florida. She attended Ithaca Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Lyle C. Whitford of Ithaca, MI, 2 daughters; Colleen & Duane Wineland of Ithaca, MI, Jeanene & Dave Wright of Ithaca, MI, son Dave & Jan Eckelbarger of Ithaca, MI, 2 step-sons; Gale & Ruth Ann Whitford of Ithaca, MI, Keith & Cheryl Whitford of Three Rivers, MI, 8 grandchildren Donna (Mark) Thompson, Leslie (Julie) Wineland, David (Carla) Wright, Cynthia (Patrick) Frederick, Heidi (Rob) Kamminga, Deanna (Scott) Blair, Hatti (Jason) Martin, Ben (Bambi) Eckelbarger, 20 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren; Kent (Jennifer) Whitford, Troy Whitford, Gail (Robert) Grover, Todd Whitford, Anne (Omar) Espinoza, Marc (Angee) Whitford, 9 step great grandchildren, sister Ardith Frisbey of Ithaca, MI, brother Jim & Peg McVeigh of Ithaca, MI, and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, first husband, and sister Barbara McVeigh
Memorials may be made to Gratiot Area Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
