Verna Lucille Harris, age 94, of Owosso, MI passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Ray A. Strawser II officiating. Burial will follow at West Haven Cemetery, New Haven Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 13, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and Thursday June 14, 2012 from 2:00-8:00 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Verna was born in New Haven Township, Michigan on May 24, 1918, the daughter of J.C. and Lottie May (Beamish) Williams. She married Thomas Lee Harris on June 28, 1947 at her parent's home. Thomas passed away on January 9, 1988. Verna was a lifelong area resident.
Verna was employed by Universal Electric for 17 years and Redmans for 11 years; retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Easton Church of Christ and the Corunna VFW Post #4005 Ladies Auxilary. Music was an important part of her life and she loved playing music with her brothers and nephews. Verna always had a big smile and loved her family, friends and cats, playing the piano, crafting and attending local live music events.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Gerri Lynn Harris of Owosso, MI, Marcia and William O'Hara of Canton, MI, 2 sisters; Marjorie Jenkinson of Corunna, MI, Lottie "Pete" and Emil Rumisek of Chesaning, MI, a brother J.C. "Jim" and Betty Williams of Owosso, MI, and sister in law Ruth Williams of Belton, SC. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers; Wilmot & Robert Williams, and 2 sisters; Lelah Donahue & Lois Burke.
The family would like to express deep appreciation and thanks to Dr. Douglas Strong, Memorial Healthcare Home Health team and the wonderful Memorial Healthcare Hospice caregivers.
