Vernal Smith

Vernal H. Smith, age 87, of St. Louis, MI died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Gratiot Medical Center Alma, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held at Forest Hill Church of Christ on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor John Robinson and Pastor John Mills officiating.
Vernal was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 18, 1925, the son of Harlo and Marjorie (Cook) Smith. He married Verna Palmer on March 7, 1945 in St. Louis, MI. Vernal served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from Total Refinery in Alma, MI. He loved fishing, golfing, and his favorite place to spend time was at Burt Lake. He treasured his family, and loved being with his grandchildren. He attended St. Louis Church of the Nazarene
He is survived by his wife Verna Smith of St. Louis, MI, son David and Ann Smith of Pennsylvania, daughter Lavonda and John Mills of Howell, MI, son Jim and Kathy Smith of St. Louis, MI, son Ken and Patty Smith of St. Louis, MI, 9 grandchildren; Nick Smith, Karla Schnelting, John Mills, Amy Heeg, Rachel Dirmeyer, Tricia Pierce, Jeff Smith, Megan Feiss, Phillip Smith, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, 1 brother Ronny Smith of St. Louis, MI, 2 sisters; Barbara Daniels of Burt Lake, MI, and Bonita Lehman of Alma, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Harlo Smith Jr.
